Margritta Reid shows Gisela Kitchingman the different sizes and kinds of “Sliding Sheets”. Margitta explaines the importance of storing them properly, by hanging or folding them into a drawer or simply by tucking them under the mattress.

Getting patient up in bed with tubular Sliding Sheets

Sliding Sheet:  For getting patient up in bed (1)

Margritta shows Gisi how to use the sliding sheet to get a patient up in bed. She explains the scissoring method of getting it under the patient for a smooth placement of the sheet. They use different sliding sheets. This may be done with one or two nurses.

Note:
any part of the body that is not on the sliding sheet acts as a break.

Getting patient up in bed with the double

body-length Sliding Sheets

Gisi and Annemarie demonstrate how to get a patient up in bed by using the double body-length sliding sheets. They demonstrate how the sliding sheets are prepared, placed under the patient with the unraveling method, and getting the patient up in bed.

Double body-length Sliding Sheets to assist a patient on the floor

Margritta shows Gisi how to use the doble body-length sliding sheets to move a patient on the floor. This can be used for getting a patient out of a tight corner, or for assisting a patient on to a stretcher.

Sliding Sheet: For patient on the floor

Using a single body-length Sliding Sheet to lift patient’s legs onto the bed

Margritta shows Gisi how to assist a patient in getting into bed by lifting and turning patient’s legs onto the bed. It is importnat to place the sliding sheet properly to avoid patient slipping on to the floor.

Note:
a single body-length sliding sheet is used
place it away from the edge of the bed to create a “Break”
