Dear Friends and fellow Christian Science Nurses,
My name is Wendy Abdollahi-Blumer, and I am a Christian Science visiting nurse in the Zurich area, and part-time Christian Science nurse and instructor at Le Verger in Rolle, Switzerland.
We had the idea of creating a web site where we could post and share with other fellow Christian Science nurses video demo clips of lifting and moving aids, practical skills and helpful tips from fellow Christian Science nurses.
It all started with the desire of sharing with fellow Christian Science nurses the different ways of using the “sliding sheet”, a useful nursing tool widely used in the United Kingdom.
But as you know, ideas grow, and as soon as we started making the video demos of the “sliding sheet” we started having ideas of other practical skills and tools we wanted to share.
Even as I sit here and work on the first version of this web site, ideas are popping up all over the place of other tips and tricks we could be adding to our collection of video demos.
So, keep looking, since I have a feeling this is not going to stop here!
Please note that these video demos are not meant to be “training videos” but simply “demo videos” to be shared with fellow Christian Science nurses.
The demo videos are not, in any way, meant to replace proper training with an experienced instructor, as the demo videos do not sufficiently refer to the principles for moving, handling and lifting, i.e. assessing and encouraging a patient to do as much as possible for him/herself, or physical challenges that might need to be taken into account, etc.
Note that in the pages that follow I only use the generic term “nurse”, and the reason for this is, because the practical skills here demonstrated are universal practical skills, not unique to Christian Science nursing.
This, of course, is certainly not a one-man-show! This web site would not have been possible without the support of :
☆ “Le Verger” in Rolle, Switzerland;
☆ The Dominion Foundation, our sponsor;
☆ Margritta Reid, who showed us how to use the “sliding sheet” and other nursing tools used in the UK;
☆ Gisi Kitchingham and Annemarie Pfrogner who spent 3 days with me in the UK making the first series of demos;
☆ and other fellow Christian Science nurses who are joining in to help, and who we will be identifying as we go along.
Thank you all!
Lovingly, Wendy Abdollahi-Blumer
